CUA51015 DIPLOMA OF SCREEN AND MEDIA

CUA51015 Diploma of Screen and Media is the highest qualification attainable in the makeup industry in Australia. Within this qualification, CMA delivers the Specialist Makeup Services stream. This course aims to equip students with the skills, knowledge and outlook to succeed working specifically as a professional Makeup Artist.

Teaching the fundamentals through to advanced techniques of makeup design; this diploma course also develops supervisor and managerial skills such as coordinating teams, budgets and briefs.

VET STUDENT LOANS

CMA is an approved provisional of VET Student Loans. VET Student Loans is a student loan scheme for the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector that is part of the Higher Education Loan Program (HELP). VET Student Loans assists eligible students undertaking approved VET diploma level and above courses. It allows eligible students to borrow funds up to their FEE-HELP limit to help pay for all or part of their VET tuition fees. Eligible students who access VET Student Loans will have a loan with the Australian Government who will, on the student’s behalf, pay their VET tuition fees to their approved VET provider.

CMA’s CUA51015 Diploma of Screen & Media is approved for VET Student Loans.

Students repay their loan to the Australian Government through the tax system once a student earns the minimum threshold level for repayment, which is $54,869 for the 2016-17 income year.  A VET Student Loan remains a personal debt obligation until it is repaid to the Commonwealth. DURATION

Two days per week for a period of 12 months or two evenings per week for a period of 12 months. Day students study as per the ACT school terms. Evening students have a one week break between each term.

INTAKE

Our Specialist Makeup Services program has two intakes per year. Commencement dates and terms are structured according to the school year. Both daytime and evening programs are available.

WORKPLACE TRAINING

Diploma students must complete 80 hours of workplace training. This could include: Repertory, Canberra Youth Ballet, bridal makeups, fashion parades, photoshoots, hair shows, face painting, video clips, short film productions, bridal shows, etc. CMA graduates have developed their portfolios through their dedication to work place training. Upon graduating, their services have been engaged for a wide variety of high profile services, including: 60 Minutes, The Footy Show, Wide World of Sports, ABC Nightly News, Channel 10 Nightly News, Lateline, 7.30 Report, MAC Makeup, benefit cosmetics, Sydney fashion week, RAFW Melbourne fashion week, FHM Magazine, Ralph Magazine, Gucci NY, Canberra Capitals, burlesque bonanza, etc. CMA graduates have worked for numerous photographic studios, modelling agencies and have completed numerous television commercials. Some CMA graduates have worked with celebrities and high profile politicians such as former Prime Minister John Howard, Ray Martin, Nikki Webster, Jessica Mauboy, Jessie London and Toby Allan.

FACILITIES

The academy is designed with individual, illuminated workstations for each participant. A fully equipped computer lab is also available onsite for student use. Students have access to CMA’s online learning management system, providing access to assessment tasks, additional learning resources, demonstration videos, practical notes and procedures, online quizzes, forum discussion and ongoing trainer support. A selection of relevant books is available to all participants for research and reference.

ADDITIONAL EXPENSES

CMA holds an annual graduation dinner, which costs no more than $110 per graduating student. Students are permitted to invite as many guests as they choose. Students are required to purchase a uniform (t-shirt) for $49 each, a starter makeup kit for $500 and a set of textbooks, valued at $15 per unit of competency. There are 15 units in total, equalling $225. Optional hoodies are also available for $59 each.

MAKEUP KIT

$500 per makeup kit. This is a starter kit of equipment and materials designed to allow you to practice outside of contact hours, attend work experience and begin professional work within your field of study. The materials and equipment contained within these kits become the property of the student once purchased. Students are supplied with additional materials and equipment for use during contact hours at CMA.

CMA ONLINE

CMA’s online system provides students with access to all their course materials in a single place. This includes textbooks, presentations, images, videos, course notes and inspo sites as well as providing access to assignments and our easy upload system for assessment submission. This compliments your class-room learning and ensures you have all the information you need at your finger tips. Students need to have a tablet or laptop. This program can be completed online for students who live too far away from our Canberra campus.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

Previous work experience or training courses may enable us to deem you competent in certain areas, which will allow exemption from some modules. This process is referred to as ‘Recognition of Prior Learning’ (RPL). As a Registered Training Organisation delivering nationally recognised training, CMA can assist you with this process. Please contact the office to request an application form. Application for RPL must occur prior to course commencement.

CAREER AND LEARNING PATHWAYS

Graduates of this program work as a professional makeup artist for film, television, theatre, photography, bridal, runway, fashion and editorial fields. Diploma graduates can also create media injury simulation, body art, special effects and prosthetics. Further study may include photography, hairdressing, and/or beauty therapy.
